All new cards are being embedded with a microchip that will add an additional layer of security to your traditional magnetic stripe card. Cardmembers without the microchip will receive a chip-enabled card when their existing card expires.
The microchip turns cardmember information into a unique code that is virtually impossible to duplicate or copy when used at a chip-enabled terminal. If the merchant has a chip terminal, they will ask you to simply insert your card into the terminal and sign your name to verify your purchase. At merchants who are not equipped with chip terminals, swipe your card and sign your name as usual.
